Why Maintain CarpetsProperly maintained carpets are attractive and enhance the customers in-store experience. Well maintained carpet lasts longer too. Carpet traps dirt, dust and other foreign materials and it is important to have a regular,
systematic maintenance approach to ensure top performance and value.
Modern carpet maintenance encompasses a multi-step approach. A
good maintenance program meets these essential goals:
keep the carpet as clean as possible
keep costs as low as possible
keep the carpet in excellent condition
The following are three basic steps to modern carpet maintenance.
Daily Maintenance
Carpet hides dirt very well, and to get the
best performance and durability from the carpet, it must be kept clean. Even though it may look clean, it needs vacuuming. And remove spills, spots and stains as soon as
possible.
Daily vacuuming is a key component of an overall carpet maintenance program. Carpet, because of
its nature, hides dirt very well. It is important to get the surface dirt out quickly, and
routinely so it doesn't become ground into the carpet. Vacuuming is the best way to
get out surface dirt.
Spotting, removing spots and stains is another
important daily task. Remove spots and stains
as soon as possible. Spots or stains remove much easier when they are fresh. Also, stains
can be tracked onto otherwise clean carpet, requiring even more work.
Interim Maintenance
Interim maintenance cleans the carpet surface
to brighten carpets and remove soils trapped in the top portion of the carpeting. Spin
bonnet shampooing the method of choice for interim maintenance.
Vacuuming is the first step in interim
maintenance. Remove as much of the top, loose soil as possible by vacuuming.
Bonnet Shampooing, uses a rotary machine and a
bonnet pad to surface clean the carpet. Bonnet shampooing is an excellent procedure
because the floor dries extremely quickly and is ready for traffic quickly. Pre-spraying
may be required on heavily soiled areas or in traffic lanes to achieve even better
cleaning efficiency. |
Restorative Maintenance
Restorative maintenance is composed of
procedures that get deep down into the carpet and remove dirt and soil all the way to the
backing. When routine maintenance no longer provides the desired look, then it is time to
perform restorative maintenance.
Vacuuming is the first step in restorative
maintenance. Remove as much of the top, loose soil as possible by vacuuming.
Pre-spraying may be required on heavily soiled
areas or in traffic lanes to achieve even better cleaning efficiency.
Dry Foam Shampoo uses a dry foam machine which
converts the shampoo solution into a low moisture foam and the machine brushes the foam
though the carpet fibers to penetrate deep down to release soil from the carpeting. Follow with vigorous vacuuming.
Extraction uses high-pressure jets to force a
hot water cleaning solution deep down into the carpet fiber. A wet vacuum positioned
directly behind the spray jet immediately picks up soil and cleaning solution.
